Brown & Brown Teams Up with Early Learning Coalition to Support Early Literacy
 
Daytona Beach, FL – The Early Learning Coalition of Flagler and Volusia Counties (ELCFV) is teaming up with Brown & Brown of Daytona Beach to raise funds for the Flagler and Volusia Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (DPIL). Through January 31, all donations to the book-gifting program will be matched dollar-for-dollar by Brown & Brown, up to $5,000. This provides individuals and businesses with a unique opportunity to double their impact on early childhood literacy during the holiday season.
 
Each book is carefully selected by a committee of early childhood experts to ensure it is both age-appropriate and high-quality. The books are addressed directly to the child, making the experience of receiving and reading them even more special.
 
“Supporting early literacy programs such as DPIL is critical to the success of our community,” said Cathy Twyman, Assistant Chair/Professor of Early Childhood Education at Daytona State College. “Opportunities for children to develop literacy skills prior to entering the public school system are essential for them to experience success upon starting kindergarten.” Twyman has been a member of the Volusia County DPIL fundraising committee for almost 10 years.
 
“When they have these rich experiences and explore the world around them through quality literacy materials, they then begin school with a solid foundation and are prepared for success,” she said.
 
ELCFV actively promotes the importance of early literacy, as research in early education consistently shows that reading aloud to young children has a significant impact on brain development. By age five, 90% of a child’s brain is already developed, making early access to literacy crucial. When parents read to their children, they support the development of communication and literacy skills, nurture a love of reading, and strengthen family bonds through shared engagement.
 
The Flagler and Volusia County Imagination Libraries are funded entirely through community donations, grants, and fundraising events, making match campaigns like this one especially valuable in supporting the program.
